Because it's beautiful...
I stumbled across this painting haphazardly as I was doing research for a modern art history research paper I'm writing about Andre Derain. As my paper is about his Fauve landscapes, I won't be including this piece in my paper, but it really caught my eye (and partly because I've never seen it before--not that I'm an expert) so I thought I'd put it someplace I'd never forget/lose it.
"a golden hue that suppresses the shadows."
It is no longer in the Tehran Museum but in the hands of a private collector in New York City
ReplyDeleteThe Philadelphia Museum of Art is doing an exhibition catalogue and hopes to include Derain's "The Golden Age", formerly in Tehran. Any info. on who to contact for high resolution photography, or someone who could forward a request? Anonymity can be protected, regarding the owner. Thank you.

Anyone with information on this painting please share it here.
ReplyDeleteWhy?
The "mullah mafia" in Tehran are slowly selling off pieces from the people's $5 billion dollar art collection without legal permission.
Renoir's Gabrielle Avec La Chemise Ouverte" was also sold and is now in the hands of a private collector in Paris.
thank you for the insight... it's so tragic how people fail to realize the treasures they possess. but, unfortunately greed controls so many realms of this world... why should art be excluded?
