cellar door

doors of notre dame, paris (not exactly a cellar door)
"This famous linguist once said that of all the phrases in the English language, of all the endless combinations of words in all of history, that Cellar Door is the most beautiful."
"sel-er dohr"

This is my favorite line (other than, "how exactly does one suck a fuck?!" lol) taken from the sci-fi indie flick Donnie Darko, one of my favorite movies... if you haven't seen it, you definitely should! WATCH IT HERE FREE !!

Although the movie is fiction, the fact is not! This belief that cellar door is the "most beautiful phrase" in the English language comes from the famous linguist J.R.R. Tolkien, who stated:

"Most English-speaking people will admit that cellar door is beautiful, especially if dissociated from its sense (and from its spelling). More beautiful than, say, sky, and far more beautiful than beautiful."

I must admit, I personally find it to be quite pleasing to say when blended as one word, like "Celadore." It does just roll off the tongue... then again, it doesn't exactly sound or feel like English when said like that. I like the words ethereal and cerulean better.

Moving on...
For your listening and viewing pleasure, here is the video for Move by CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy---Portuguese for "tired of being sexy" lol). Caoot-sy video. Popp-y song. Quirky concept.
